About Me
My name is Monica Mera and I am a self driven UX/Product Designer based in Seattle, Washington. As a designer, I am passionate about designing creative solutions that challenge me to predict user behavior and allow them to do more in a single application. My background in media arts and animation strengthens the visual design skills needed in designing those creative solutions with my knowledge of branding, typography, and illustration. My years of customer service come in handy for understanding how to approach user needs/pain points, and pushing to meet those expectations in a realistic way. I’m always expanding my influences and experimenting with different styles to avoid limiting myself to a single one.
As a person, my background helps drive how I approach my design work and where I would like it to take me in my journey. I am a first generation Latina college graduate who has experience with immigration issues and identifies with the LGBTQ community. Ideally I would love it if my UX design journey would allow me to work with companies that give me opportunities to help causes in either of these communities, or even a combination of both would be fantastic since I know that is a smaller group. I value the opportunity to be able to directly or indirectly help these communities through the creation of apps and websites while also being able to blend my own interests of visual design, ux design, and helping people.
When I’m not developing my ux design skills or illustrating, I’m usually baking recipes inspired by The Great British Bake Off, gardening in the summer, or reading my favorite fiction books. Most days you can find me rewatching animated or horror movies as background noise while I work in my home office. I love seeking out new opportunities and working with people who share the same passion as I do for projects so let’s connect sometime!
